What is the difference between rekeying and replacing a lock?
Rekeying changes the internal pin configuration of your existing lock so old keys no longer work and new keys do. It's faster and less expensive than replacing the entire lock. Replacement is recommended when the lock is damaged, outdated, or you want to upgrade to higher-security hardware.
How long does it take to rekey a whole house?
Most homes are fully rekeyed during a single visit. We bring spare pins and cylinders so there's no waiting for parts. Multi-unit rekeying for landlords can usually be scheduled as a batch job.
Can you rekey all my locks to work with one key?
Absolutely. This is called "keyed alike" and it's one of the most popular upgrades. As long as all your locks are the same brand or can accept the same cylinder, we rekey them to a single key. Great for front door, back door, deadbolt, and garage entry door.
Do I need to be home during the service?
For interior lock work, yes. We need access. However, for exterior-only door rekeying on a rental property, arrangements can sometimes be made with our technician. We always verify authorization before starting any work.
Can you install a smart lock on any door?
Most standard residential doors with a standard 2-1/8" bore hole are compatible with major smart lock brands. Older doors, non-standard sizes, or doors with unusual setback measurements may need a slight modification. We assess this on arrival and let you know before any work starts.
How many keys do I get after a rekey?
As many as you need. We cut keys on-site so there is no extra wait. Standard service includes 2 keys. Additional copies are cut at a small per-key fee. We recommend at least 3–4 keys per household plus one spare stored securely off-site.
